China's headlong rush into modernity, whilst still clinging on to its centuries-old traditions and beliefs, is fascinating to observe, nowhere more so than in the field of community care, where the traditional family-based means of support and care for children, the elderly and those with special needs have been eroded by the One Child policy and the massive migration of young people from the rural areas into the cities.
This tour will enable you to see at first hand how China is getting to grips with introducing a state-run system of care in the community that is relevant to its emerging status as a major world power. In a programme of private visits you will meet your professional counterparts and discover the very different conditions and challenges that they face.
It is also very much a holiday, exploring China's great cities, awe-inspiring historical sites, uplifting landscapes and unique culture. Equally memorably, you will enjoy many fascinating glimpses of a way of life vastly different from our own, way off the beaten track.
Your tour leader throughout China is Zhang Zhong Jiu (Zhang) who has organised and run Master Travel's Chinese study tours since 1993. His pride in his country, enthusiasm, wonderful sense of humour, great charm and flowing English has endeared him to our travellers for 16 years. Having grown up during the Cultural Revolution, Zhang has lived through the immense changes and upheavals that China has gone through, and his store of personal anecdotes and observations will give you an insight into Chinese life and culture that is truly unique.
